High-Order Contamination in the Tail of Gravitational Collapse

چکیده

It is well known that the late-time behaviour of gravitational collapse is dominated by an inverse power-law decaying tail. We calculate higher-order corrections to this power-law behaviour in a spherically symmetric gravitational collapse. The dominant “contamination” is shown to die off at late times asM2t−4 ln(t/M). This decay rate is much slower than has been considered so far. It implies, for instance, that an ‘exact’ (numerical) determination of the power index to within ∼ 1% requires extremely long integration times of order 104M . We show that the leading order fingerprint of the black-hole electric charge is of order Q2t−4.

Mode-coupling in rotating gravitational collapse: Gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations

We consider the late-time evolution of gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations in realistic rotating Kerr spacetimes. We give a detailed analysis of the mode-coupling phenomena in rotating gravitational collapse. A consequence of this phenomena is that the late-time tail is dominated by modes which, in general, may have an angular distribution different from the original one. In additio...

انقباض گرانشی یک لایه نورگونه با تقارن استوانه‌ای در خلاء

Barrabès-Israel null shell formalism is used to study the gravitational collapse of a thin cylindrical null shell in vacuum. In general the lightlike matter shell whose history coincides with a null hypersurface is characterized by a surface energy density. In addition, a gravitational impulsive wave is present on this null hypersurface whose generators admit both the shear and expansion. In ...

Radiative tail of realistic rotating gravitational collapse

An astrophysically realistic model of wave dynamics in black-hole spacetimes must involve a nonspherical background geometry with angular momentum. We consider the evolution of gravitational (and electromagnetic) perturbations in rotating Kerr spacetimes. We show that a rotating Kerr black hole becomes "bald" slower than the corresponding spherically symmetric Schwarzschild black hole. Moreover...

انقباض گرانشی یک لایه نور گونه با تقارن کروی در نسبیت عام

In this work, the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric null shell with the flat interior and a charged Vaidya exterior spacetimes is studied. There is no gravitational impulsive wave present on the null hypersurface which is shear-free and contracting. It follows that there is a critical radius at which the shell bounces and starts expanding.

Mode-Coupling in Realistic Rotating Gravitational Collapse

We analyze the mode-coupling phenomena in realistic rotating gravitational collapse. Physically, this phenomena is caused by the dragging of reference frames, due to the black-hole (or star’s) rotation. It is shown that different modes become coupled during the rotating collapse. As a consequence, the asymptotic late-time tails are dominated by modes which, in general, have an angular distribut...
